Program Overview
The Bachelor of Arts in Ministry is an undergraduate degree designed to provide students with advanced study in biblical interpretation, ministry, leadership, and practical service in community environments.
Students will study biblical texts, church history, spiritual formation, ethics, and leadership theory while developing practical skills relevant to faith-based, nonprofit, and community leadership settings. The program emphasizes critical thinking, responsible interpretation, effective communication, and the ability to lead and serve in diverse organizational and cultural contexts.

COURSE LIST & DESCRIPTIONS
General Education Core (15CR)

This course examines the foundational concepts of interpersonal communication, communication theories, and relational dynamics. Students develop practical skills in verbal and nonverbal communication, listening, and small group interaction.

A study of conflict theory, communication barriers, and resolution strategies within personal, organizational, and ministry environments. Students learn practical approaches to managing conflict and fostering healthy dialogue.

A survey of Christian history from the Protestant Reformation to Modern Christianity, exploring key movements, figures, councils, and developments that shaped global Christianity.

A foundational course in algebraic principles including functions, equations, inequalities, and graphing. Emphasis is placed on problem-solving and quantitative reasoning applicable to academic and professional contexts.

This course provides an overview of foundational biological principles, including cell structure and function, genetics, evolution, and the diversity of living systems. Students explore how biological processes sustain life and examine the relationship between biological science and broader questions about human existence, health, and the natural world.
Ministry/Leadership Studies (15CR)

This course introduces students to the primary evidence and logical foundations supporting the Christian faith. Students learn to evaluate objections, analyze evidence, and communicate a reasoned defense of the Christian worldview with clarity, confidence, and intellectual integrity.

An examination of the five-fold ministry model found in the New Testament, including its historical interpretations, theological implications, and practical application within various organizational and ministry contexts.

This course focuses on leadership development for complex and evolving ministry environments. Students study organizational leadership, vision development, team dynamics, and personal leadership formation.

A study of marriage and family dynamics, exploring relational health, conflict resolution, communication, and ethical considerations. Students examine how these dynamics inform leadership roles, pastoral care, and community engagement.

This course introduces methods of sermon development, including expository, topical, and narrative forms. Students learn principles of interpretation, outline construction, delivery, and communication for various audiences.
Biblical/Theological Studies (15CR)

This course offers an in-depth study of the Gospel of Luke, examining its historical setting, literary structure, and theological significance. Emphasis is placed on Luke’s portrayal of Jesus, the role of the Holy Spirit, and themes of compassion, discipleship, and the Kingdom of God.

An exploration of the book of Acts, focusing on the early church’s development, missionary expansion, leadership formation, and the work of the Holy Spirit. Students analyze historical events, narrative movements, and theological implications for contemporary faith and organizational leadership.

A study of the global mission movement from historical and contemporary perspectives. Topics include cross-cultural engagement, mission strategies, challenges and successes of global missions, and the future of international Christian service.

A comprehensive study of the life and ministry of Jesus Christ as presented in the Gospels. Students examine the cultural, historical, and theological dimensions of Jesus’ teachings, miracles, relationships, and identity, with application to leadership, service, and personal formation.

This course explores the life of David—from shepherd to king—considering historical context, leadership lessons, spiritual formation, and David’s role in the biblical narrative. Students examine themes of calling, character, triumph, failure, and legacy.
Electives/Other Coursework (15CR)

The final project for Bachelor of Arts in Ministry students, integrating academic learning with applied ministry research or practicum experience. Students demonstrate comprehensive competency in leadership, interpretation, and practical ministry application.

Students may receive up to 15 credit hours upon submission and review of qualifying ministry or life experience (e.g., work, military, community leadership).

Students who have completed the Building Strong Foundations or School of Ministry courses may test out of each course for placement credit (up to 15 credit hours).

Students may select up to 15 credit hours of online elective studies to complete during the course of their degree program.

Students may receive transfer credits for equivalent coursework taken at another university or institution. Review of official transcripts must be completed after acceptance into the degree program.
